c) Adult Educational Conference
1. MAGIC held it’s second annual program targeted for affected adults. We incorporated an adult program into our “children’s” foundation, as many of our children have now reached young adulthood and have
strongly requested services. Again, the only program of its kind
2. 73 affected adults attended
3. 9 medical segments were offered
4. The program has received so much acclaim, that this two-day conference is scheduled to extend to 3 days in 2008
d) Medical Literature
Each year we distribute thousands of medical brochures written in laymen’s terminology
for families of affected children and medical professionals to distribute to newly
diagnosed patients. In 1996 we distributed 5,346. This year we exceeded 34,000
brochures. We hope to decrease or maintain this number as more people access
information via the website.
Updates were made on 4 existing brochures.
e) Outreach
Networking: An integral aspect of any child’s healing process is the health of his/her
caregivers. Therefore it is important for parents to connect with other parents of similarly
affected children. To speak to another parent is the second most commonly requested
service asked of us. As parents begin to communicate with each other, they also begin to
loose their feelings of overwhelming sadness and anxiety. This benefits the center of the
issue- their child. Slowly a healthy “can do” feeling emerges and life begins as the
struggles become routine. But the crucial aspect of feeling all alone with these rare
conditions….vanishes.
f) Medical Partnerships/ Affiliations
MAGIC continues to network with widely respected hospitals, clinics and other
organizations in the effort to continue the educational awareness of these rare
medical conditions. Our affiliations include:
The American Academy of Clinical Endocrinologist
The Lawson Wilkins Society
The Pediatric Endocrine Nurse Society
The Association of School Health Nurses
Pediatric Endocrine Society
MAGIC continues to receive referrals from physician specialists throughout the United
States. They represent highly recognized institutions and hospitals.
g) Kid’s Programs
MAGIC continues to offer programs specifically for the kids. The programs include:
Birthday Club
Kids Newsletter
Kids Pen Pal Club
