History of
The MAGIC Foundation
A Legacy of Support and Advocacy
The MAGIC Foundation was born out of necessity, driven by a group of parents who experienced the challenges of navigating growth disorders with their children alone. After facing delayed diagnoses, medical uncertainties, and an overwhelming sense of isolation, these parents came together to form a network of support. What began as daily phone calls between five families spread across the United States—soon transformed into something much larger: a national community dedicated to helping families just like theirs.
Incorporated on October 29, 1989, The MAGIC Foundation emerged with a clear mission to reduce the emotional and physical trauma caused by growth-related disorders and to offer comprehensive resources to both children and adults impacted by these conditions.
Global Impact
Initially focused on Growth Hormone Deficiency, MAGIC expanded rapidly as families and medical professionals alike sought help for a variety of growth-related conditions. In response to this growing need, MAGIC established specialized divisions for various disorders. Today, MAGIC supports families affected by over 11 primary disorders and maintains networks for additional medical conditions.
One of MAGIC's most pivotal milestones came in 1995 when the foundation hosted the world’s first National Educational Convention solely to help families affected by growth disorders. This gathering allowed families to connect, share experiences, and learn from experts in the field. The convention has since become an annual event, with families attending from across the globe.
Supporting Children and Adults
MAGIC recognizes that growth disorders don’t just affect children—they impact individuals throughout their lives. As news of MAGIC’s work spread, the foundation began receiving requests for adult support, leading to the creation of MAGIC’s adult divisions. Today, these divisions offer a wide range of services, including newsletters, networking, online support groups, and educational conventions tailored specifically for adults. The connection between MAGIC’s adult and pediatric divisions is vital, as adults often mentor children and families, providing hope and guidance.
A Community-Driven Effort
Operating out of Warrenville, Illinois, MAGIC is powered by a small yet dedicated team of staff members and supported by a nationwide network of volunteers and division consultants. MAGIC maintains one of the world’s most comprehensive databases for growth-related disorders, with over 50,000 families connected through its network.
Looking to the Future
MAGIC envisions a world where growth disorders are diagnosed early, ensuring that every individual can access the care they need. When research and innovation thrive, no one is left without medical support.
